About the GST Calculator

Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Value Added Tax (VAT) are consumption taxes applied to goods and services. Calculating net amounts, tax components (CGST/SGST/IGST), and gross totals is critical for businesses and shoppers alike.

How to Use the GST Calculator

  1. 1Enter the Base or Total Amount.
  2. 2Choose whether the amount is GST Exclusive (add tax) or GST Inclusive (remove tax).
  3. 3Select a standard tax slab (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) or enter a custom rate.
  4. 4View the Net Amount, GST Tax Value, and Gross Total.

How It Works & Underlying Logic

For GST Exclusive: Tax = Amount × (Rate / 100). For GST Inclusive (Reverse GST): Base Amount = Total / (1 + Rate / 100), and Tax = Total - Base Amount.

Mathematical Formula / RuleGST Add: Total = Base + (Base × Rate / 100) | GST Remove: Base = Total / (1 + Rate / 100)

Practical Calculation Examples

Add 18% GST to $1,000 Service

Tax Exclusive calculation

Input: Amount: $1,000 | Rate: 18% | Mode: Exclusive
Output: GST: $180.00 | Total Invoice: $1,180.00

Reverse GST from $590 Item

Tax Inclusive calculation with 18% GST

Input: Amount: $590 | Rate: 18% | Mode: Inclusive
Output: Base Price: $500.00 | GST Paid: $90.00

Helpful Tips & Best Practices

  • For intra-state transactions in dual GST regimes (like India), GST is split equally between CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST).
  • Always check invoice types to confirm whether quoted prices already include sales tax.

GST Calculator FAQ

Original Cost = Total Price / (1 + GST Rate / 100). The GST amount is Total Price minus Original Cost.
